A Legacy
is the young NN stallion that Lanis Noble and I
selected to enhance our breeding program. There
is a lot of history to his pedigree. Dudley
Pillow was a great friend of mine from
Mississippi who passed away in 2004. He and I
would talk daily about bloodlines, pedigrees,
and genetics. He had such an influence on my
breeding program. For the 20 years that I knew
him, his idea of the ideal horse never changed.
First and utmost was an exquisite head, a strong
back, huge hip and good hocks. And, he didn't
want to fool with a horse if it didn't have a
good mind. Of course I loved all these
attributes too, but I also added high necks to
my ideal and in later years, Dudley reflected
more and more as to the importance of a long
croup. A Legacy reflects these ideals and he has
the pedigree to accompany them. It is ironic
that the stallion we picked is a product of
Dudley’s program. When his sire, Shanes Bake was
born, I remember Dudley being so excited about
him. He was by Skips Shane by Ima Cool Skip and
out of a great 16 hand daughter of Ima Cool Ski
that is a full sister to World Champion, Ace
High Cool. This makes him a double bred Ima
Cool Skip on the top side of his pedigree. I
was with Dudley when he bought the dam of A
Legacy. Her name is Sonnys Red Lace and she
stands a good 16.1. She is a mare that sold
twice for $100,000. Dudley loved this mare but
he could not get her pregnant for years due to
the fact that she had a torn cervix. I remember
how excited he was when he finally got her in
foal to Shanes Bake. That is the only time that
I ever heard Dudley say he wanted a stud colt
out of any mare. Both Dudley and I always wished
for fillies but he thought a stud colt out of
Sonnys Red Lace would give him the replacement
stallion he was looking for. Unfortunately he
passed away before the colt was foaled. He would
have been so excited to have seen this colt and
the fact that he tested NN for HYPP would have
been the icing on the cake. Lanis and I bought
the colt as a young yearling and intend to give
him every opportunity to be a great breeding
horse. He is the ideal cross for our modern
bloodlines as he is an outcross and with his
short back, gorgeous head, great mind, big hip
and solid legs, he has a lot to contribute to a
program. I am looking forward to 2007 when we
can cross him on our mares and to 2008 when the
first foals will be born. |
