Ellis Quarter Horses
started when I married Mike Ellis in 1971. Horses have always been a part of my
life---I remember the disappointment that I felt
as a young child when Christmas came and there was
no pony under the tree.
At 7 years of age, my parents bought me my
first horse.
Her name was Ginger and she was a Shetland pony and from
then on, I have always owned horses.
My father was a doctor and we would
transport Ginger in the local taxi cab
around the community where
we lived.
We
would also take her into the community hospital
where the sisters who ran it, would
feed her cookies. From
the Shetland pony I moved on to quarter
horses.
My
dad bought me a registered quarter horse
in 1959 and I began showing horses. Over
the years, the quality of the horses kept
upgrading until we currently have a group
of animals that I am proud to own and could spend
hours admiring them. Life
has been very satisfying for me and I am very
content with the quality that we now own.
From our small group of mares, we have
raised 4 Open World or Reserve World
Champions, 1 Youth World Champion along with a
Palomino and Buckskin World Champion.
Our
operation consists of raising quality foals and
selling them.
Embryo transfer has become a big part of
our program in the last few years and we try to
keep our expenses under control.
I learned to ultrasound and breed my
own mares. With the help of Mike, my husband, and
Bob Luebker, who has been with us since 1985, we
run this whole operation. Our place is
located in the beautiful Fox River Valley
in Wisconsin.
Mike has been in the state legislature
since 1971---first as a state representative and
now as a senator.
When he isn’t there, he is helping here
on the farm.
That basically is our operation.
I
would like to invite you to view our
“home on the web” and also to come and visit
us in person.
Life has been very good to me.
I have been able to enjoy the things
that I love the most and still profit from doing
it. I
take pleasure in sharing the current news with you
and I would certainly welcome any
suggestions you may have to improve our
program. I
hope you enjoy your visit.
